Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, FL is a regionally producing theatre affiliated with Actor's Equity Association, The League of Resident Theatres, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists. Riverside Children's Theatre, the educational arm of Riverside, offers classes, camps, and training opportunities in the areas of theatre, dance, music, and video for all ages on a year round basis.

JOB TITLE: Community Engagement Instructor & Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Directors of Theatre and Dance Education

JOB TYPE: Full-Time Salaried

DESCRIPTION: The Community Engagement Instructor and Coordinator is an education position responsible for teaching, directing, and leading our community engagement programs, as well as assist with other educational projects at Riverside.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

● Qualifying Teaching/Directing Skills in one or more areas of Directing, Acting, Music, Dance, and/or Choreography

● Positive, upbeat personality with teaching experience

● Ability to interact positively with youth, parents, coworkers, and community partners

● Familiarity with literary and theatre material

● Enjoys teaching and directing youth

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Be the primary instructor, director, and contact for our community engagement partners in Indian River County, including, but not limited to, Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC), Gifford Youth Orchestra (GYO), Environmental Learning Center (ELC), Boys and Girls Club, and Youth Guidance.

● Direct the GYAC students in an MTI Junior show that will be performed at the Junior Theatre Festival (JTF) in January, in conjunction with Riverside’s own JTF group.

● Lead and direct the monthly Playtime in the Park presentations

● Help enlist more Community Engagement Partnerships

● Assist/teach/direct Riverside classes and camps, as needed.

● Direct, assist with, and coordinate Schoolsical after school musical program as needed

General Outline of Responsibilities Throughout the Season

June to July

● Direct, music direct, and/or choreograph summer shows depending on skill strengths

● Prep for Fall Community Engagement Programs

● Meet with Community Engagement partners

August to October

● Direct and assist Schoolsical program as needed

● Assist with directing and/or choreographing Riverside Theatre Education shows as needed

● Teach Community Engagement groups

● Begin auditions and rehearsals for GYAC Junior Theatre Festival show

● Begin planning for WinterFest performances

● Plan and run Playtime in the Park in coordination with Directors of Theatre & Dance Education


November

● Rehearse Programming for WinterFest

● Assist with directing and choreographing Riverside Theatre Education shows as needed

● Continue work with Community Engagement groups in preparation for WinterFest performances

● Assist with WinterFest planning in coordination with Riverside staff

● Plan and run Playtime in the Park in coordination with Directors of Theatre & Dance Education

December

● WinterFest performances

● Assist with WinterFest event in coordination with Riverside staff

● Plan for Junior Theatre Festival (JTF)

● Rehearse and adapt JTF performance with GYAC group

● Plan and run Playtime in the Park in coordination with Directors of Theatre & Dance Education

January

● Attend Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta with GYAC and Riverside

● Plan spring Community Engagements including Schoolsicals

● Plan and run Playtime in the Park in coordination with Directors of Theatre & Dance Education

● Assist with Summer Early Bird Auditions

February to March

● Teach and Assist with Theatre Arts Workshops

● Assist with directing and choreographing Student Series shows

● Direct and assist with Schoolsical program as needed

● Direct and assist with Student School Touring Show as needed

● Begin new Community Engagement Programs

● Plan and run Playtime in the Park in coordination with Directors of Theatre & Dance Education

April to May

● Continue Community Engagement Programs

● Direct and assist with Schoolsical program as needed

● Plan and run Playtime in the Park in coordination with Directors of Theatre & Dance Education

● Summer Planning

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

● Uphold the Core Values of Riverside Theatre

● Assist with education productions as needed

● Develop and teach curriculum for Community Engagement Groups

● Develop and run the Playtime in the Park monthly performances

● Participate in interviews and other theatre publicity events.

● Represent Riverside Theatre in the community and schools in a professional, respectful manner

● Supervise and teach children in class and camp settings
