Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, FL is a regionally producing theatre affiliated with Actor's Equity Association, The League of Resident Theatres, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists. Riverside Children's Theatre, the educational arm of Riverside, offers classes, camps, and training opportunities in the areas of theatre, dance, music, and video for all ages on a year round basis.

Assistant Scenic Charge

 JOB TITLE: Assistant Scenic Charge

REPORTS TO:  Scenic Charge Artist 

JOB TYPE:  Full time with hours worked as needed to meet production goals. Based on the production calendar must be able to work irregular hours, evening hours, long hours and weekend shifts.

DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Scenic Charge is responsible for assisting with the implementation, maintenance, and removal of all productions and events at Riverside Theatre.  

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Maintain positive attitude, possess strong leadership skills, high level of organizational, communication, problem solving skills and ability to work well in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in professional theatre settings. 

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Familiar with faux finishes, texture applications, color mixing, and paint shop equipment. Drop painting experience considered a plus.

  • Experience with sprayers, including pneumatic, airless, and HVLP.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Uphold the Core Values of Riverside Theatre.

  • Assist the Scenic Charge as assigned.

  • Assist with organization, storage and cleaning of paint shop.

  • Serve as Scenic Charge for Riverside KIDS productions as assigned.

  • Address paint notes in performance reports as assigned.

  • Ability to lead smaller projects and supervise additional help.

  • Competent with layout methods.

  • Assist with in-house benefit performances, rentals, lectures and special events as assigned.

  • Read rehearsal and performance reports and respond to any reported problems and be readily available for any troubleshooting.

  • Attend meetings, rehearsals and events as needed.

  • Work on backstage crew in emergency situations.

  • Attend all strike calls and assist as needed. 

  • ASC will have the opportunity to be contracted as Scenic Designer on children’s theatre productions and second stage productions as opportunities and interest arise.
