Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, FL is a regionally producing theatre affiliated with Actor's Equity Association, The League of Resident Theatres, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and United Scenic Artists. Riverside Children's Theatre, the educational arm of Riverside, offers classes, camps, and training opportunities in the areas of theatre, dance, music, and video for all ages on a year round basis.

 JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: CARPENTER

REPORTS TO: Technical Director

JOB TYPE: Full time with hours worked as needed to meet production goals. Based on the production calendar must be able to work irregular hours, evening hours, long hours and weekend shifts periodically.

DESCRIPTION: Assist in the construction of all productions and execution of all technical activities associated with Riverside Theatre.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude, possess strong leadership skills as well as a high level of organizational, communication, and problem solving skills and the ability to work well in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • 2-3 years of experience in professional theatre settings. 

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

  • Familiar with Pneumatic tools, portable and stationary woodworking tools, metal working tools, welding equipment and standard stagecraft techniques.  

  • Experience building both wood and metal scenery, basic rigging, basic scene painting techniques, reading and interpreting construction drawings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Uphold the Core Values of Riverside Theatre

  • Working with the Technical Director & Assistant Technical Director, execute and monitor all scenic needs for Riverside Theatre Productions.

  • Construct, finish, and base all scenic elements.

  • Install and strike all scenic elements.

  • Check and adjust scenery as needed prior to every performance.

  • Assist with Rental Events.

  • Clean, organize, unload, and strike rental events as needed.

  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of Scene Shop Equipment and enforce shop safety.  

  • Assist with backstage areas and counterweight/ tracking systems.

  • Help organize and maintain the backstage area.

  • On a monthly basis, clean, check, test, adjust, fix, and report problems of the counter weight and automation systems.

  • Assist in run crew if needed to cover a sickness or injury

  • Other duties as assigned by Technical Director
